History to 1500…

Filed under: Brady Whealon Photography — Brady Whealon @ 9:18 am

Highway 55 : Plymouth MNSometimes in the road through life we are blinded by things we think are important. In my history class right now we are reading a book called The Chalice and the Blade. It is a story about our history as humans and how we have grown away from our nature. Through time we have always put our energy on things that we thought were important at the time. In prehistory (recorded history) we see that females were integral to society and religion. We worshiped the life bringing powers of the womb and showed a shared or equal value of man and woman. They understood that life was the greatest miracle and that it was a joint effort between man and woman.

Agriculture became a mainstream way to harvest food and it centralized those who used to hunt and gather into cities. The religion that focused once on the harvest of a successful crop and and respect of women and mother nature changed to the religion of war. The brute force of man and his power and assertiveness was needed to protect the materialism that agriculture had spawned. Now that Religion turned into a way to pray for success at war instead of one of one of human kinds basic needs. After men became the center of our religion we as a society began to take slaves and take what was not theirs as they lost interest in the importance of equality between the sexes and between comrades. This change in history translates to this capitalistic mentality on the United States today. What is mine is mine, I earned it, I deserve it, you cant have it. It still amazes me how selfish some people can be. In our busy world obsessed with time we lose sight of what is really important.

At the end of the day all we have left are family and friends……

Tiger Lilies ..:.. Thomas Lake Park ..:.. F/2.0 ISO 100 1/60th

I have been working so hard on my school work I haven’t had time to post lately. I apologize for that and I want to share some more images that have slipped through my filters the first time through them. This image was taken a number of years ago in Thomas Lake Park. There was one little patch of Tiger Lilies that really caught my Fathers eye and he showed me where they were. I love looking through older images because it almost always brings back all of the wonderful memories that I have from the last few years. Thank you to everyone who has helped me both make and remember those memories!

Photoshop Action for Colorized Infrared Images

Filed under: Brady Whealon Photography — Brady Whealon @ 11:55 am

This action has been requested by a number of people that have seen my colorized infrared images and I thought that this would be the best way to share it. It is actually the first action that I have published and I hope that there will be more to come. The basic idea behind this action is that an infrared image holds some color data in the red and blue levels and by switching the data in these two channels you will have a surreal infrared image that will change the way you look at infrared photography.

You can Download the action here: Color Swapping Action. Or you can view a gallery of sample images here: Colorized Infrared gallery

Thomas Lake Park in Eagan MN has always yielded a high number of successful images for me. It is hard to imagine that something so close to home can bring such beauty to peoples lives. I think that Eagan has done a wonderful job of preserving it’s green spaces with parks and preserves for our families to enjoy. So go out and set an example for future generations by keeping the planet green and fighting for parks and preserves. Anyway this gallery is of images taken with an infrared camera. The surreal effect is really something that I have fallen in love with.

I am also announcing that I will be starting an article category to help those who wish to learn more about photography and photography related techniques.
